Nothing fell out. Although, now that I think about it, he was not crazy to look for extra bits of food in his clothing. A stray Cheerio or two usually falls out whenever we change him.

Per usual, another enjoyable podcast, and kudos to keeping up with them (I know they take more work than posting text, which takes work as well). A few observations from a devoted listener:
1) I’ve never heard of the term ‘Mommy blog.’ Seriously – I’m surprised that I never came across it while spending countless hours surfing the internet. That said, I’d argue that the majority of blogs out there are written by parents, and the topic is generally about their children. I agree, a blog about how great someone is as a parent or as a child would grow old: I’d find it much more informative if someone told me how to deal with the stuff that makes a parent go insane.
2) Another highlight to podcasts is that you command your audience’s attention. Sadly, many of the people who routinely navigate blogs of friends barely read the text, and look for pictures or short text only (this has been confided in me from multiple people who read ours). A podcast forces them to hear what you are trying to say.
3) Regarding topics to post about: amen. We’re constantly trying to come up with new things to blather over, and children seems like an endless supply of content. It is important to keep in mind that blogs are simultaneous journals, so whatever you write about – no matter how seemingly banal you might consider it – will be something for you and your kids to look upon later in life (you realize this I know, but I often tell myself it when I am contemplating whether to post or not on a given day).
4)Friends and family visit your site because they care what is going on in your lives as people as well as parents. Hearing you describe life, alone or with one another, extends this further and makes it easier for us.
5) I’m all ears: you’ve got a ball and two hoops…what is basketball?

6) I forgot to add: the impact of your audience on what you write. I wrestle with this as well, and despite the carte blanche approach I try to use when finding topics, I always have in the back of my head the reminder that moms and grand-moms will be reading my rants…so I struggle a bit. You guys have done a superb job with balancing this – really commendable – and the reminder that your kiddos will be reading your opinions some day must make this even more challenging.
Not much more to add on it, just another comment – and a reminder to back up all of your posts so your kids can read it someday (e.g., to a gmail account so if your HDD crashes you still have them somewhere).

Does wordpress automatically insert a smiley into comments that contain more than one exclamation point? Because I don’t recall doing anything (besides over-enthusiastically punctuating) and yet there it is, sunglasses and everything, next to my comment.

What I like about podcasts I listen to, whether it’s 5 minutes long (Laura’s preference) or 20-30 minutes or even an hour (which I don’t mind), is that I can surf other sites while it’s on. Or it can be downloaded from the host site or from iTunes and listened to on an mp3 player while in the car, at work or mowing the lawn.
There will always be someone who isn’t going to like what you create in a blog post or in a podcast, if you have 4 readers or a million. So worrying that someone isn’t going to like what you are doing while you are creating it only hinders the process of finishing the product. Save the time-intensive editing process for another time or hope that one day you’re good enough where someone else does the editing for you.
