Podcasting
April 20th, 2009
We did another podcast the other night (click the gray player at the right to listen), a whole family effort this time, on road trips with kids. Since we spent Spring Break on the road and the weekends before and after at Matt’s parents’ house, it seemed like a good thing to talk about. Elliot even answered some questions instead of just yelling “HI-YO!” and cracking up.
Not mentioned in the podcast: the fact that we are still unpacking from all the trips. Which is just great because my mom is moving this week, so we are also hauling carloads of stuff in from her house and getting ready to rearrange furniture yet again and OMG where are we going to put all this stuff? And why am I sitting here typing about it instead of doing something about it? Good question.
Before I get up and get to work, let me just ask you to help us settle a little. . . err. . difference of opinion we’ve been having around here lately regarding the podcasts. If you have a sec, leave us a comment and let us know if you think they are a) too long or b) too short. And if you don’t listen to ours (absolutely no offense will be taken, we swear) what would you say is the ideal length for a podcast? We need your feedback in order to enhance the Podcast Named Pig Listener Experience, so please tell us what you think!
Podcast the Third
March 15th, 2009
A family effort this time: Matt interviews Siena, then we all attempt to get a few words out of Elliot, who had a serious case of the giggles (not unlike me, the first night Matt and I played around with Garageband). Instead of answering any of his usual favorite questions (about his sister, his favorite color “ojo” or his upcoming birthday) he just yells “HI-YO” and cracks up repeatedly. Anyway, worth a listen for that part and for some of Siena’s answers to Matt’s questions — I particularly like the one about her favorite colors, and the one about how she is going to greet her cousins she hasn’t seen since Christmas.

Podcast, take 2
March 11th, 2009
You should see a new edition of Podcast Named Pig in the player on the right. (That gray thing in the sidebar.)
As mentioned in the premier, we discuss Facebook and social networking sites. Consensus: Life today, with or without Facebook, is better than life in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s day.
Please remember that we are amateurs, probably will never have proper sound equipment, and, in doing these podcasts, are embarking on a challenge equivalent to training our actual cat named Pig to be nice to people and let them pet her. (Monumentally difficult considering the abuse she has suffered at Elliot’s hands teeth lately.) Also, we are huge dorks.
Feel free to let us know what you think, even if what you think is that we are huge dorks. We’re OK with that.
Podcast Named Pig
March 7th, 2009
Laura: What are you doing?
Matt: Reading about podcasts.
Laura: You listen to enough podcasts – is there really anything you still need to learn about them?
Matt: I don’t know how to make one.
Laura: Why? For the website?
Matt: We need to innovate.
In the spirit of innovation, we are pleased to present to you Podcast Named Pig. (To be updated at sporadic intervals until we lose interest.)
And no, this is not a joke. Although it kind of sounds like it could be. I can see the Onion-style headline now: “Local Mommyblog Launches Podcast, Seeks to Build Media Empire of Diaper Stories.”
But that is not exactly our intention (unless you want the diaper stories – we’ve got ‘em). We want your feedback as we play around with this Podcast Named Pig. What do you want to hear? Siena singing (opera-style)? Elliot babbling about Wall-e? Matt and Laura arguing about who needs to go clean the fishtank, or discussing current events in an insightful and thought-provoking manner? (It will probably be a mix of all of these, except perhaps the “insightful” part.)
At best, we hope it will be entertaining. At worst, it will at least be brief, so you won’t lose too many precious minutes of your life listening to it. Check it out, and let us know what you think.
